About me

I’m Alix, welcome to The Little Red Hen Jewellery.

A collection of recycled Sterling silver, fine silver, copper and enamel jewellery handmade in the UK. I’m inspired by nature, folk art and the beautiful countryside where I live.

I make everything by hand with love and care from my home workshop in the Kent countryside.

The Process…

My jewellery is made using traditional metalsmithing techniques and I also work with precious metal clay, also known as fine silver. It’s a fantastic eco-friendly material which is comprised of pure silver recycled from medical, dental and technological industries.

Enamel Jewellery

I’ve recently added an enamel jewellery collection. I love enamel and wanted to add a splash of colour to my jewellery, so this was an ideal way to do that.

I enamel on copper, using glass enamel powder, which is then fired in a kiln.

I’ve always been creative and love the process of making anything by hand. I was drawn to jewellery making as it’s the perfect fusion of artistic design and technical hands-on!

It’s also convenient for working from home, as it’s a fairly small scale craft and fits in well with my family life.

Every piece I create is made with lots of care and attention to detail.

I love making personalised jewellery. Making a keepsake that will hopefully be treasured for years to come, is such a lovely thing to do.

Eco -friendly materials which are kinder to the planet.

It’s important to me to use recycled or sustainable products wherever I can.

I use 100% recycled Sterling silver (otherwise known as Ecosilver). I always recycle or repurpose any scrap silver, so many of my designs feature scraps of Ecosilver melted into new designs, so it’s like recycling twice!

We’ve recently had solar panels installed, so I can run my kiln and other machines using renewable energy. (At least when the sun’s out!)

Where possible, I always choose ethically sourced gemstones.

Sterling Silver London Assay office hallmark with makers mark and 925 fineness mark

All items weighing over 7.78g are hallmarked in line with UK hallmarking laws.

I am registered with the London Assay Office and all hallmarked pieces of jewellery will bear my maker’s mark: the initials AL.

Click the ‘hallmarking info’ tab in the website footer for more information on hallmarking.

Plastic Free Packaging using sustainable materials

Your jewellery will come presented in my logo printed gift boxes, which are made from recycled materials and are also recyclable.

I use 100% recyclable card postal boxes and recyclable paper packing tape to ensure your jewellery arrives safely.

I’m currently looking for a recyclable alternative to the foam inserts inside the boxes.
